Eckhard Ritterbach :Head of Power Plant Development and Construction RWE Power Eckhard Ritterbach has been working for RWE Power AG of Essen, Germany, since 2002 and became Senior Manager of Power Plant Planning and Implementation in 2007. He started his professional career at Aachen Technical University where he was employed from 1986 – 1993 first as a scientific assistant and later as chief engineer & manager of the hydraulic engineering research institute. From 1993 - 1999 he worked for RWE Energie AG, Essen, holding various positions incl. head of hydropower projects and head of the power generation portfolio staff unit before joining Mátra Erömü Rt.0, Visonta, Hungary, as Executive Vice President in charge of development, projects, technology and trading in 1999. He received a master's degree and a doctorate in civil engineering (hydroscience) from Aachen Technical University. Since 1999, he has been giving lectures on energy economy at the Faculty of Building Sciences at Duisburg-Essen University.
Mr Charles Soothill: Senior Vice President Technology:Alstom Power Systems Charles Soothill, Senior Vice President Technology, Alstom Power Systems, reporting to the President. Personally committed to the importance of sustainable global economic development and power generation’s contribution. Has been active in developing technologies for efficiency, fuel flexibility and emissions reduction for over 25 years. As Senior Vice President Technology sets the Technology strategy and R&D policy for ALSTOM Power Systems. Member of the Management committee of Alstom Power Systems. Vice-Chairman of the European Technology Platform on Zero Emissions Fossil Fuel Power Plants.
 Anders Eldrup:President/Chief Executive Officer:DONG Energy Anders Eldrup joined the company in 2001 as CEO and is a registered manager of DONG Energy with the Danish Commerce and Companies Agency. Mr. Eldrup was educated at the University of Århus where he received a Master's degree in political science in 1972. Immediately before joining DONG, he served for 10 years as permanent secretary of the Danish Ministry of Finance, a post he held since 1991 when he was director in the Department of the Budget. His career at the Danish Ministry of Finance also included positions as personal secretary to the Minister of Finance, department head, and division chief. Mr. Eldrup began his career at the Office of the Auditor General of Denmark. Plenary Sessions:
 Alex Lambie:Chief Executive Officer: Welsh Power Group Alex Lambie is a professional and accomplished company director with more than 25 years in the commercial arena of energy, more specifically in oil, gas and electricity. He formed Carron Energy in March 2003, and in December 2003 left Endesa Europe to focus on the development of Carron Energy, which became Welsh Power Group in October 2007. Mr Lambie has held senior positions in British Gas, National Power, Amec PLC, Sithe Energies, and Endesa SA, and has a highly successful track record in business process re-engineering in domestic and overseas markets particularly Europe, Far East, Middle East and USA, as well M&A, project development and start-ups. 
Matthew Brett: Managing Director, Europe: Advanced Power Matthew Brett is responsible for Advanced Power’s activities in Europe. Prior to his involvement with Advanced Power, Mr. Brett worked as European Director of Investment and Portfolio Management for InterGen with responsibility for InterGen’s business development in Europe, in particular Germany, Benelux and Spain. Mr. Brett was also project manager for the successful development of InterGen's 800 MW Knapsack project, and led the successful sale to Statoil of InterGen's Aldbrough gas storage project, a 6 Bcf salt cavern facility. Prior to joining InterGen, Mr. Brett worked with Ernst & Young on the development and project financing of the $670 million QAFAC chemical facility and on numerous other corporate and project financing transactions.Mr. Brett is a Chartered Accountant (ACA) and holds a BA (Hons) in Business Studies.
John Blaney:Managing Director Europe:ICF International John Blaney currently serves as Managing Director of ICF’s London Office, which provides comprehensive climate change and power market consulting services. Mr. Blaney is an energy/environment economist with twenty-six years of experience at ICF in environmental market and policy analysis, air emissions compliance strategies, and electric power market modeling and analysis. He also directs ICF’s Climate and Environmental Strategy practice. Mr. Blaney holds a M.S. in Public Policy and Management from the Heinz School at Carnegie-Mellon University.
Robert Giglio:Director of global marketing and strategy:Foster Wheeler Global Power Group Robert Giglio joined Foster Wheeler Global Power Group in 1994 as director of research and development, principal research engineer. In 2005 he was appointed director of marketing and stepped in to his current position as director of global marketing and strategy in January 2006. Prior to joining Foster Wheeler Global Power Group Mr Giglio worked for Honeywell/Textron from 1986 to 1994 as senior aerospace engineer and from 1977 to 1981 served in the United States Air Force as Crew Chief on KC-135A In-Flight Refueling Aircraft. He received a masters of science in mechanical engineering from the institute of technology Massachusetts, a bachelors of science in mechanical engineering from the University of Massachusetts and an associate degree in aircraft technology from the community college of the United States Air Force.
Robert de Kler: Head of T&PD Engineering Services: Nuon Mr de Kler is Head Engineering Services for Nuon TPD. In this role he is responsible for technical developments in the field of power generation, renewables and gas storage projects for 7 years. Prior to this assignment, Mr de Kler has worked for more than 4 years as in the petrochemical business and 6 years in the energy business in various roles (research and engineering).Mr de Kler holds a degree in Mechanical and Process Controls Engineering and a Master of Business in Energy Systems.
Albert de Kreij: Sales Director: Hadek Protective Systems Albert de Kreij was born in 1964 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and he is a graduate of Erasmus University , with a degree in Business Economics. In 1989, Albert joined Hadek Protective Systems, which specializes in the internal protection of power plant ductwork and chimneys. During his work with Hadek, Albert had gathered extensive experience using thin film lining systems and borosilicate glass block linings for ductwork and chimneys. He has been closely involved with a number of technical studies on the use of borosilicate glass block linings. He is also closely involved with the practical aspects ofusing these lining systems in the field. 
Willibald Fischer:Project Manager:Siemens Power Generation Mr. Fischer joined Siemens Power Generation (former KWU) in 1991. After several years as Project Manager in the area of Project Implementation for large scale EPC turnkey power plant projects for various countries worldwide, he joined the Next Generation Gas Turbine Development Project in 2003 as Program Manager. With the progress of the gas turbine development he took over in parallel the responsibility as Project Manager for the Irsching 4 H-class demonstration power plant which includes erection, test operation, and field validation of the plant to assure product quality and reliability to the customer for the new developed product.
Gregor Gierschner:Technical Project Leader:E.ON Engineering Mr. Gregor Gierschner is graduate mechanical engineer. At E.ON Engineering GmbH he works as a project engineer in the division Project Development. His special field in the department Technology and Studies is the 700°C-Technology. Besides his activity at E.ON’s 700°C Demonstration Power Plant, he is involved in European 700°C research projects. Within the European project COMTES700 he is the technical project leader of E.ON.  Stein Epsen Bøe:Technical Manager:Naturkraft Stein Epsen Bøe was born in 1975 in Trondheim Norway and he is a graduate of University of Bergen, with a Master of science, Physical Chemistry and he also holds a Business Economist BI from the Norwegian school of Management.In 2001 Stein Epsen was appointed Manager of environment and process in one of Europes largest particle board companies, Forestia AS, a division of Norske Skog ASA at that time.He furthered his career as an R&D-Engineer in Rana Gruber AS, a Norwegian Iron Ore company.Today he is Technical Manager, Naturkraft AS. Norways first commercial powerplant based on fossile fuel.
Göran Lindgren: R&D Program Manager:Vattenfall Göran Lindgren has a MSc degree in thermal engineering in 1988. Professional record mainly as consultant engineer and project management within biomass CHP and nuclear projects and biomass IGCC R&D. Since 2004 full time in the Vattenfall project on CCS with focus on oxyfuel development, manager for power and process technology department at Vattenfall Research and Development AB and since 2008 appointed CCS Progam Manager at Vattenfall AB Group Function Strategies/R&D.  Graham Welford: Sales Manager - Europe:Doosan Babcock Graham Welford is the Sales Manager for Doosan Babcock New Build advanced coal-fired boiler products in Europe. Mr Welford has led proposals for supercritical boilers and other coal fired boilers for Doosan Babcock in Europe, US, China and Vietnam. Based at the company HQ, he works closely with subsidiary companies across Europe. Mr Welford’s background is technical and he has led a number of research programmes on supercritical boilers, combustion and gasification technologies both for Doosan Babcock and previously for British Coal.  Douglas Spalding:Europe Business Development Manager:Doosan Babcock After obtaining an Aeronautical Engineering degree at Glasgow University, Douglas worked in gas turbine development for Rolls Royce, then led a team at the National Engineering Laboratory undertaking R&D in process equipment engineering and software development. He has been at Doosan Babcock Energy Limited now for over 10 years and has used his skills and experience to identify new product, service and market opportunities on CCGT, coal fired plant and in the emissions reduction market.
Christoph Kühleis:Head of Section:German Emissions Trading Authority,Umweltbundesamt(Federal Environment Agency). Christoph Kühleis is head of the economic section of the German Emissions Trading Authority (DEHSt) at the Federal Environment Agency (UBA). This section gathers and analyzes all relevant data concerning the national allocation of allowances and CO2 emissions, evaluates the performance of the emissions trading scheme and develops proposals for its further development. Christoph Kühleis joined the UBA in 2000 as an economic expert with a particular focus on emission trading. From the outset in 2004 he has been part of the DEHSt. He is a graduate of the Free University Berlin, with a degree in economics.
Niels Peter Christensen:Manager,Geological Storage of CO2:Vattenfall Niels Peter Christensen has a background in petroleum geology. For the past ten years he has been involved in developing the concept of geological storage of CO2, contributing to the initiation of the Sleipner and Ketzin (CO2SINK)R&D projects as well as being the leader of several international projects dealing with assessment of storage capacity. He is on the advisory committee of the European Technology Paltform for Zero Emission Power Generation (ZEP), and the co-leader of the Task Force on Technology. He represents the EC in the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF) Task Force on Capacity Estimation and he is an honorary professor in CO2 storage at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. He joined Vattenfall at the begining of 2008 and will be in charge of the geological storage facility which will be part of Vattenfall's recently announced full-scale demo project in Denmark.
Mark Johnston: Associate, European Energy & Climate Security E3G Third Generation Environmentalism Mark Johnston has recently joined E3G (Third Generation Environmentalism) after twelve years working on policy and legislative issues for Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace in both London and, since 2003, in Brussels. His experience in research, analysis and advocacy extends across all energy sectors and in their relations to, for example, the environmental protection, internal market and competition regulatory arenas. Mark's new role at E3G focuses on the completion and delivery of a new European strategy on the use of fossil-fuels in power generation as an essential element in an effective response limiting global climate change to a less than 2° Celsius increase in average surface temperature. 
Geoffrey Morrison:Programme Manager: IEA Clean Coal Centre Dr Geoffrey Morrison graduated in Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham, UK in 1972 and gained a PhD, also in Chemical Engineering at Birmingham in 1975. From 1975 to 1977 he worked at the Midlands Research Station of British Gas on the gasification of coal using the British Gas Slagging Gasifier. In 1977 he joined IEA Coal Research as a technical author writing several studies on all aspects of coal utilisation but concentrating on combustion issues. IEA Coal Research, now known as IEA Clean Coal Centre, is a collaborative agreement of member countries, established under the auspices of the International Energy Agency, which supplies information on efficient and sustainable coal supply and use. In 1989 he became Head of Publications with responsibility for the programme of technical reports and in 1994 became manager of the coal utilization programme which has centred on the development of Clean Coal Technologies worldwide. He currently holds the position of Programme Manager. |
