Speakers  Stewart Bible General Manager FlowTack, USA Stewart Bible received a M.Sc. degree in Thermal Fluids Engineering with a special focus on Computational Fluid Dynamics from The University of Kentucky in 2002. Mr. Bible began working with FlowTack in 2004, becoming General Manager in 2005 and co-owner in 2006. Under Mr. Bible’s leadership, FlowTack has performed fluid dynamics modeling for over 50,000 MW of power plant operations. Mr. Bible’s current interests are in the areas of genetic algorithm optimization, CFD modeling of CO2 capture and sequestration technologies, validation of CFD models using experimental model data, and Massively Parallelized Large Eddy Simulations.
Wlodzimierz Blasiak Vice President Strategy Mobotec Europe, Sweden Wlodzimierz Blasiak is a Professor at Division Energy and Furnace Technology, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. Since 2006, he has also joined Mobotec Europe AB. Professor Blasiak holds a PhD in applied thermodynamics and has performed research on combustion and heat and mass transfer processes in boilers and furnaces. For the past ten years, his main research subjects have been clean combustion processes particularly High Temperature Air Combustion and oxy-fuel combustion of gas and solid fuels like coal and biomass. Professor Blasiak has published more than hundred papers on these subjects. He has managed many research and industrial projects financed by Swedish and international agencies in cooperation with European and Japanese industries.
Federico Bonzani Head of combustion technology Ansaldo Energia, Italy
Federico Bonzani is the Head of Combustion Technology Team at the Gas Turbine Department of Ansaldo Energia. His expertise are covering various topics such as natural gas, syngas and hydrogen combustion in heavy duty gas turbine.
After being graduated on 1993 as mechanical engineer at the University of Genoa, he joined Ansaldo Ricerche, (Ansaldo Basic Research Division) where he has been dealing with chemical kinetic modelling about gas turbine combustion. On 1995 he joined Ansaldo Energia, he’s been involved in combustion topics in Ansaldo Energia becoming, on 1998, responsible of the company burners development on low BTU fuel (tar syngas, steelworks gas, low BTU natural gas).
From 2001 to 2005 he assumed the position of project engineer relevant to the biggest project achieved by Ansaldo Energia (9 V94.3A natural gas fuelled and a V94.2K fuelled by tar syngas for ENIPOWER of ENI group). On 2004, after the end of the license agreement with Siemens Power Generation, he’s leading the Combustion Technology Team dealing with the improvement of the combustion system of the Ansaldo Energia GT fleet.

Based in the UK, with global responsibility for Biomass projects as well as the development of sales, tendering, marketing and communications for low Nox firing systems, power plant capacity increase projects, fuel switching and design studies in the UK, Northern Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Richard Cooper Business Development Director Cascade Technologies
Richard is an academically and professionally trained manager with 25 years experience in international manufacturing and project management and experience of company set up. He has been involved in diverse operations including capital projects, the repair and overhaul of complex (Rolls Royce) jet engines for military and civil use as well as medium volume vehicle production. He has undertaken many personal initiatives to improve business effectiveness, requiring strong analytical skills and a variety of facilitation and management techniques in unionised and non-unionised environments. Mr Cooper received his engineering degree from Strathclyde University in Glasgow in 1979. He set up Scotland’s first Medical Device sterilisation company and subsequently ran his own consultancy company. In his consulting role he helped companies with organisation development, acted as a production manager and carried out equipment engineering work in the production of optical crystals in the photonics industry. He sits on the Scottish board of the Bio Industry Association and is a Director and Vice Chairman of Medical Devices in Scotland.
Marc De Witte Director Métier Generation Electrabel, Belgium Marc De Witte started as a metallurgical engineer on failure analysis and life time assessment in Laborelec in 1980. He became responsible for the maintenance of turbines in Deux-Acren (currently MCC) in 1993. After a short stay in Antwerp on management and logistics, he was appointed as Maintenance Manager in Belux-West. In 2005 Marc went as executive vice president to Polaniec, Poland. He came back end 2006 to lead talent management in HR SEE. Since July 2007 Marc De Witte is director of Métier Generation

Albertus Dijks is employed in Waukesha Engine’s Marketing department and working on Marketing and Engineering issues related to cogeneration from Waukesha’s office in Appingedam, the Netherlands. Albertus has 9 years of experience at Waukesha Engine in Appingedam. Prior to his current position Albertus was Manager Engineering for Waukesha Engine in the plant in Appingedam. The focus was on the VGF which is the predecessor of the APG1000 and is still in production. Prior to working for Waukesha Engine Albertus worked in the roller bearing industry in Germany and in a power producing company in the Netherlands. Filip François Policy officer large combustion plant directive European Commission, Belgium Filip François has obtained a Master Degree in agricultural and chemical engineering at the University of Gent, Belgium in 1989. He was a researcher at this University for 5 years in the field of atmospheric pollution. In 1995, he joined the Flemish Environmental Inspectorate and has been co-ordinating for over 10 years the Inspectorate's enforcement projects concerning air pollution. Since October 2006, Filip François has joined the European Commission. He is working within the Industrial Emissions Unit of DG Environment as a policy officer, in particular responsible for the Large Combustion Plant Directive. He is also dealing with the implementation of the IPPC Directive, the Waste Incineration Directive and the VOC Solvent Emissions Directive. He was closely involved in the review of the IPPC Directive resulting in the Commission's Recast Proposal for a new Directive on Industrial Emissions.

Dr Phil Goddard is a Chartered Engineer, graduating from the University of Leeds with a degree in Energy Engineering and a later Ph.D in advanced emission control techniques for utility power plant. He has worked in the energy and utilities sector for over twenty years in a variety of roles with British Gas, the CEGB (former UK state owned generating company), BOC Gases and Vivendi Environment. Phil was the Product Development Manager for emission control packages and manufacturing solutions to industry, including power stations, steel plants, glass producers and refineries. He also has experience as a Business Development Manager in these sectors.
Since 2003 Phil has worked for the EIC where he is currently Director of Business Services. His main focus is to assist clients with developing their business objectives in the oil & gas, power and renewable sectors. Phil heads a department of sector specialists who work closely with operators, EPC contractors and the wider supply chain to realize maximum opportunity and value. Dr. Goldschmidt works at Siemens Energy in the Fossil Power Generation Division. In this role he is responsible for management and acquisition of government funded programs. Prior to this assignment, Mr Goldschmidt has worked in gas turbine and materials engineering of Siemens Power Generation and in the materials laboratory of Motoren Turbinen Union Muenchen (MTU). He also co-chairs the Task Force Technology of the European Technology Platform for Zero Emission Fossil Fuel Power ZPlants (ETP-ZEP). Vladimir has been part of the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), since 2006. His focus is on mitigation and adaptation technologies supporting cooperative actions by States to combat climate change and its impacts on humanity and ecosystems. Prior to this he worked for the European Commission, Intelligent Energy Executive Agency (IEEA), implementing the Intelligent Energy - Europe programme, the financial instrument addressing key non nuclear energy challenges of the EU. He also worked for the Energy Centre Bratislava, Slovakia, which focused on energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies including economical, environmental and social aspects of their implementation in the CEE countries.

Torben Hille Manager - Pressure parts & combustion equipment Dong Energy, Denmark Torben Hille is manager of Dong Energy’s department for pressure parts and combustion equipment, located in Skærbæk and Copenhagen. This department is a part of the engineering group within Dong Energy Power headquartered in Skærbæk, Denmark.
He has worked in the Power manufacture and power producer industry for 14 years, principally in the Engineering design and technology development areas of steam generators. Robert G. Hilton Director, Global Business Development Environmental Control Systems ALSTOM Power, USA Robert G. Hilton currently serves as Director, Global Business Development, Environmental Control Systems at Alstom Power. In this position he is responsible for Technology, Marketing, Strategy and Communications for the company’s global Air Pollution Control Business. Hilton has been with Alstom for more than ten years and has held positions including Business Unit Manager, Ash Systems Director, and Strategic Development Director. Today, Hilton is responsible for the development of Alstom’s range of air pollution control technologies for SOx, NOx, Particulates, Mercury that covers product strategies, new product development, marketing, R&D budgeting and is notably responsible for Alstom’s CO2 capture R&D program for power generation. From 1993 to 2000 he worked in Jaworzno III Power Plant as an Engineer at the Electrical Protections and Measurement Department. In this coal-fired power plant Jerzy Janikowski was actively involved in commissioning of the control system of the wet gas desulphurisation plant. In 2001 he went to Strategy and Management Department in the PKE SA (second power generator in Poland) and held positions ranging from Expert to Head of European Affairs. Since March 2008 Jerzy Janikowski has joined Tauron Polska Energia as International Relations Officer. Hermann Kremer Director Business Development Emerging Technologies, Energy Sector, Siemens AG Dr. Kremer is responsible for analyzing new business opportunities, defining the offer solutions and implementation of the respective businesses. Based on his long term experience in different Senior Management assignments in the chemical processing industries, Dr. Kremer has a broad knowledge in process development, design and engineering of new processes and plants. Barry Ladbrook Senior Consultant Pöyry, UK Barry Ladbrook joined Pöyry in February 2006 as a Senior Consultant. One of Barry’s key roles has been to help clients develop their commercial strategy, which includes providing analysis for several major international energy companies considering entering the European electricity market, valuing gas storage and electricity interconnection facilities, supporting a renewable energy operator seeking to refinance its portfolio, and advising a European commercial bank on the implications of environmental regulations for its coal contracting strategy. Barry also helps organisations respond to the development of the carbon market. Examples include supporting a European trading platform launch its carbon products, enhancing and extending the UK Government’s carbon price forecasting model, analysing the economics of Carbon Capture and Storage, helping formulate the Carbon Capture and Storage strategy for a major European energy company and advising a large electricity generator on post 2012 scenarios.
Barry has 20 years of experience, primarily in the telecoms sector. During this time he helped developed costing models used in interconnection discussions, was involved in the negotiation of frameworks for market liberalisation in a range of jurisdictions, and spent a year in Panama helping the incumbent operator prepare for market opening. Barry moved from Australia to the UK at the end of 1996. Barry holds an MSc in Economics from Birkbeck College, University of London.  Jan Middelkamp Senior consultant Kema Consulting, The Netherlands Jan Middelkamp is a senior consultant and has over 15 years of experience in flue gas desulphurization. He has been the program manager in KEMA’s R&D work related to flue gas cleaning at coal-fired power plants for over 5 years. Subsequently, he has been involved in client engineer activities at three Polish coal fired power stations that have been equipped with wet flue gas desulphurization plants in the nineties. More recently, Mr. Middelkamp worked as a flue gas cleaning consultant in a broad market area: power stations, waste incineration plants, industrial plants and environmental authorities. On a regular basis, he is invited by Dutch utilities to support them in solving operational problems with their flue gas cleaning systems. In a number of projects he studied the influence of co-firing secondary fuels (in coal-fired power stations) on the emissions to the air. In these projects, new and improved flue gas cleaning concepts were evaluated and selected, that can meet the stringent emission standards for co-firing secondary fuels. In the past two years, he has executed a number of co-firing feasibility projects in Europe as well as in the US. Mr. Middelkamp combines in-depth R&D knowledge with hands-on experiences at full-scale plants.

Sauro Pasini, student of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa, graduated in Chemical Engineering in 1979 and he joined ENEL Thermal & Nuclear Research Centre in 1980. He was previously head of the Technology Scouting group within the Engineering & Construction Division. Andrzej Pawelec Ph.D was born 15.12.1969 in Warsaw, Poland. From 1989 – 1994 he studied at the Warsaw Technical University, with the Environmental Engineering Faculty. From 1991 – 1996 he undertook a second faculty with the Chemical and Process Engineering faculty, at Warsaw Technical University.
From 1995 – 2001 he undertook Ph.D. studies with the Chemical Faculty of Warsaw Technical University carrying out research on the synthesis of silicon nitride in the reaction of silica with ammonia.
From 2001 he has worked in the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology in the Department of Nuclear Methods of Process Engineering. His main point of interest is research on the development of electron beam flue gas treatment (EBFGT) technology. In 2006 he was appointed as the Head of Laboratory for Nuclear Methods of Environmental Protection.

Philip Pouillie (1959) holds a MSc Degree in Physics and Computer Sciences. He joined Electrabel in 1987, and has a broad experience in project management of different IT-related projects, plant operations of different power plants and leading the IT-Governance for Electrabel in Europe. Currently he is director of the Electrabel Generation Area West, which comprises several power plants co-firing biomass. He joined Haldor Topsøe in 2001 as a Research Engineer and subsequently was appointed Research and Development Project Manager, his primary areas of responsibility are SCR DeNOx catalysts, oxidation catalysts and process development.
Harald Reissner BU Environment Head of Process Technology AUSTRIAN ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT AG & Co KG Dr Reissner is Head of Process Technology at Austrian Energy & Environment AG. He has a long background in air pollution control (APC) technologies. Before moving to AE&E he spent several years in lecture posts carrying out research in the field of wet and dry flue gas desulphurisation at the universities of Cantabria and the technology uinversity of Graz. At the latter university a dry desulphurisation process – brand name Turbosorp – based on circulating fluidised bed technology was successfully developed by his team. In his current position as head of process technology his responsibility covers the process design of all APC technologies within the AE&E group worldwide. His department covers the process engineering, I&C engineering, commissioning and R&D activities for AE&E’s APC technologies.
Michael Rini, Program Manager Alstom Power USA
Mike has over 3 decades of experience in the power generation and emissions control industry. He has worked for Alstom Power in positions ranging from technology development, engineering management, sales and marketing.
For the past ten years, Mike has worked at Alstom Environmental Control Systems in Knoxville, Tennessee where he has held wide variety of positions. Mike is currently Alstom’s program manager for mercury control technologies.
Mike has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, is a Professional Engineer in Mechanical Engineering and has a Master’s degree in Management.
Mike is also co-inventor on 6 U.S. patents for coal-fired boiler and air pollution control technologies.

Dr Rode completed studies at the Technical University of Berlin and the University of Essen in energy and chemical engineering thermodynamics and power plant technology and chair technology of energy supply and energy systems thermodynamic assessment of power plant technologies. His doctorate degree was in energy and chemical engineering, his thesis was "Development pathways of lignite-fired power plants". He joined E.ON engineering in 2003 as a project engineer working on new build and R&D projects in the power plant technology and projects department. He was appointed to his current position in 2006.

Ole Rønning is educated M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Norwegian Institute of Technology in Trondheim.
His work experience is from various position in the Norwegian industry giant Norsk Hydro ASA where he worked for more than 30 years. Starting out with the establishment of petrochemical production facilities and moving over to oil and gas exploration in the North Sea. As president of the Norsk Hydro Technology and Projects division he had the responsibility for world wide project management within both fertilizer, aluminium, petrochemicals and oil&gas production.
He moved to Naturkraft AS where he was managing director for the first natural gas fired power station to be built at Kårstø in Norway.

Knut Sanden was project manager for the Just CatchTM development project headed by Aker in Oslo in the period 2005 - 2007. His current position is Aker Clean Carbon’s Project Manager for the ongoing FEED for the Kårstø full scale CO2 capture facility. Tim Shippy Sales Manager Environmental Systems Division Peerless Mfg. Co. USA
Tim Shippy is sales manager for the Environmental Systems division of Peerless Mfg. Co. in Dallas, Texas. Tim, who graduated in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University, in College Station, Texas, made the leap to the environmental world in 1996, when he joined Peerless as a sales engineer. Since then, Tim has moved through the ranks and now oversees the division's product managers, sales representatives and worldwide direct sales.
In the 12 years he has worked for Peerless, Tim has observed a dramatic increase in the global demand for emission control products in the power industry, allowing his company to install more than 700 selective catalytic reduction systems on power plants totaling more than 90,000 megawatts.
Tim is involved in the Council of Industrial Boiler Owners, or CIBO, as well as the American Boiler Manufacturers Association, or ABMA. He lives in a Dallas suburb with his wife, D'Ann, their twin 6-year-old boys, Tyler and Walker, a 4-year-old boy, Ford, and another boy due in January!

Douglas Simmers is Worldwide Product Manager for Combustion Analyzers for Rosemount Analytical, which is a division of Emerson Process Management. Mr. Simmers has 26 years of experience in providing control and instrumentation products into the Power Marketplaces, Internationally. Prior to coming with Emerson, Mr. Simmers worked for Westinghouse Electric, and Bailey Controls (now ABB). Mr. Simmers has a BS degree from Miami University in Ohio, and currently resides in Massillon, Ohio with his wife and son.
Douglas Spalding Europe Business Development Manager Doosan Babcock Energy, UK
After obtaining an Aeronautical Engineering degree at Glasgow University, Douglas worked in gas turbine development for Rolls Royce, then led a team at the National Engineering Laboratory undertaking R&D in process equipment engineering and software development.
He has been at Doosan Babcock Energy Limited now for over 10 years and has used his skills and experience to identify new product, service and market opportunities on CCGT, coal fired plant and in the emissions reduction market.
Edita Vagonyte European affairs manager European Biomass Association
Edita Vagonyte is currently working as European Affairs manager for AEBIOM, the European Biomass Association. She started work at Renewable Energy House in spring 2006. Since then Ms Vagonyte has been in charge of the European Affairs and Communication divisions within the Brussels office. Prior to joining AEBIOM, Edita temporarily worked for the European Commission, DG Communication.

Henk Vandenberghe (1970) holds a MSc Degree in Engineering and Safety. He joined Electrabel in 1997. He has project experience in refurbishments of existing convential power plants ( DESOX, DENOX, biomass) and held several jobs in power plant operations and maintenance at the Electrabel power plants of Langerlo, Mol and Ruien. Currently he is plant manager of the Electrabel power plant of Ruien.
Frans van Dijen Consultant Laborelec, Belgium
Graduated from the Eindhoven University of Technology and holds a MSc in Chemical Engineering and a PhD in Physical Chemistry-Technical Ceramics. He has published many technical papers and articles and has many years of engineering experience having worked for companies such as Electrabel part of the SUEZ group, EPON, INOTEC GmbH & Co, Kettenbauer GmbH & Co and LONZA-Werke GmbH .
He joined Laborelec in 2002 and is active in biomass and waste process technology, gas turbines, and chemistry of water.
