Irsching Power Plant Visit Siemens installs the world's largest and most efficient combined cycle gas turbine at E.ON's plant location Irsching in Bavaria, Germany. After successful testing of the gas turbine in a gas turbine power plant, Siemens will extend it to a turnkey combined cycle power plant. The Irsching 4 power plant will deliver over 530 netto MW in combined cycle operation and is designed to achieve more than 60% efficiency. The new power plant provides enough energy to supply a city or region with three million people. For design, development, manufacturing and verification at the Irsching 4 prototype plant approximately 500m Euros have been invested. E.ON Kraftwerke GmbH, a subsidiary of E.ON Energie, will operate the plant after a trial operation. Siemens is building the plant on the site of an existing power station in Irsching near Ingolstadt. Unit 1 (151MW) was closed down and Unit 2 (312MW) is in cold reserve, while Unit 3 supplies 415 MW. Siemens is actually building two combined cycle power plants at Irsching: Irsching 4 is a 530 MW netto unit planned for 2011 and Irsching 5 is the new 845 MW netto unit planned to enter operation in 2009. On the site visit you will learn about their experiences building this path-breaking facility and plans for construction of the world’s most efficient combined cycle plant.
